Decent hotel centrally located in Sandton

I only stayed for one night at the Protea Marriot hotel in Sandton because it was convenient as I was going on a safari tour and the hotel was a pick-up point for the safari excursion. The hotel was spread out over a rather extensive area and you could get lost (which I did) trying to find your room the first time you got there. I asked one of the staff members (who was very friendly and helpful) and even he couldn't find my room the first time he tried. Eventually we did find it. The service was good and all of the staff I came in contact with were polite and helpful. The area in the immediate vicinity did not really have much to offer but was also free of beggars, which is always a relief. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. There was a lovely outdoor swimming pool which looked very inviting since the weather was warm and nice. However, I never had the time to use it. The hotel offered a free shuttle service to and from the Sandton shopping centre, which I never used. All in all, it was a comfortable stay at a hotel a fifteen-minute walk from the Sandton shopping centre and the Gautrain station, which has a train link to Tambo international airport.

Bra klassiskt hotell med fina trädgårdar och pol områden alldeles intill Sandton City och Mandela Square. Skön avkoppling efter affärsmöten runt om i Sandton.

Kanonläge!

Väldigt trevligt hotell som ligger på kort promenadavstånd från Mandela. square med många bra restauranger och mycket shopping. Hotellet har även en trevlig pool om man hinner med det. Tyvärr så hann inte vi använda den. Supertrevlig service!

A good priced mid-range hotel

Excellent mid-range hotel that is struggling to be on the top, working really hard. The floors look as if polished daily, the rooms are clean (I stayed in two different) and felt fresh. The hotel consists of several building tied together so it is a bit of a maze with swimming pools in-between, which gives a nice familiar feeling. The restaurant was good, a decent selection of tasty food and the personnel really friendly and quick to help you in any way. The hotel is within quick walking distance of the Sandton Convention Center, as well as the Mandela Square Shopping Center. An excellent choice if you have business in the Sandton area and want to have something either cheaper than the convention center hotels or just enjoy a short evening walk to your hotel after having had dinner.

Hotellet ligger i ett ganska tråkigt område. Du behöver åka taxi till det mesta. Väldigt bra steakhouse granne med hotellet som rekommenderas. Poolerna var dåligt skötta.

Ground floor room damaged by damp

Before our arrival we had made reservations and paid for two rooms (same reservation no.). At our arrival, they could only find one reservation. After some 15 minutes waiting they said our reservation had been found and we got a room. Things like that can happen, and they solved it, which is fine. However, when we got to the room it was on the ground level and damaged by damp with a strong distinct smell, even with the windows open (on arrival). We asked for a room change to a higher floor which was no problem, and that room was OK. But you'd think no hotel should want to put their guests in a room like the first on in the first place. If you stay there, ask for a room on one of the upper floors. The hotel is a business hotel. It was nice enough, and the staff helpful and friendly. A small minus on the service was that the concierge wanted to sell us an expensive package when we asked about a visit to the apartheid museum. The package (taxi + tickets) was approx. x2 in price than paying for a taxi (booked by the hotel) and tickets to the museum separately, which we ended up doing. The hotel is OK for 1-2 nights. It's got two swimming pools and a nice garden court. However, if we go to J-burg again, we would choose a different hotel.
