West Side YMCA

I initially chose the Y because of the price. I was thinking about the locations in the South and did not have my hopes up to high for anything more. I was surprised at the size of my private room and the private bathrooms all of which included a shower. The room is basic. I bed, chair, desk, television, lamp, and a closet. If you need more then stop reading and go check into one of the more expensive hotels. Was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of children at the hotel. That sealed it for me because anyplace that is kid friendly is a safe place. I was a short walk from Central Park, Columbus Circle, and for me Times Square. The subway is two blocks away which will give you the rest of the city for a small fee. Even when you check out if you need to stow your bags before you fly out they will lock them away for you for $1 per bag. My only issue with the place is that I needed to iron a shirt and no iron was available and the cleaners across the street needed 48hrs to press a shirt. If you are looking for a clean quiet place to stay I strongly recommend staying their.

Wer hier einen Aufenthalt plant, sollte in keinem Fall mit einem normalen Hotel rechnen. Es ist vergleichbar mit einer Jugendherberge, mit kleinen Zimmern und Gemeinschaftsbädern. Die Qualität der Unterkunft ist hier für den vergleichsweise günstigen Preis aber in Ordnung!!! Das West Side YMCA besticht vor allem durch seine absolut hervorragende Lage: unmittelbar am Central Park und perfekte Anbindungen durch den Columbus Circle. Allgemein lassen sich interessante Sehenswürdigkeiten, wie z.B. der Times Square sogar zu Fuß erreichen. Empfehlungstipp wäre das West Side YMCA vor allem für junge Leute, die New York City kennen lernen wollen und einfach nur eine günstige Unterkunft brauchen. Innerhalb des YMCA gibt es auch ein Fitnesscenter, Schwimmbad und freies WLAN in der Lobby, das jedem zur Verfügung steht. Eine Empfehlung für Schüler und Studenten ist es in jedem Fall!

The location is excellent. We walked one block to Lincoln Center. We were close to subway and buslines. We were next to Central Park and the weather was perfect. We walked to Madison Avenue and took the bus back. We took in the Cinema at Lincoln Center, an abundance of restaurants, and many places we saved for the next trip.y. People in NYC were very helpful and at the Y too. We had a great visit. and the budget prices allow for a return.

Came for a two day workshop in the City and only needed a room to sleep--this place fit the bill! I did have to switch rooms when I first signed in--the first room smelled very smoky/odorous/mildewy and didn't have a security bolt on the door; door didn't seem secure and I worried about that with open access by elevators and shared bathrooms... But the staff was very kind and accommodating to switch me to another floor to a more pleasing room, albeit very spartan. Thank goodness the AC worked nicely! My biggest quibble is the excessive mildew odor that permeated the hallways, rugs and my room and the uncleanliness of the shared bathrooms. It might be a good idea to bring flip-flops to the shared bathrooms as the tiled floors were constantly wet, rust/mildew stained and unkempt... Oh, and shower early in the morning! I luckily just missed the bathroom rush hour waiting for a shower stall at 8:30 AM on a Sunday--but know there is one especially on the weekend! For just one night, I'd stay here again... but the convenience of being in a prime spot of Manhattan was its strongest selling point!

Bon hôtel. Nous étions au 8eme étage. Odeur de cigarette dans le couloir parfois. 2 ascenceurs. la chambre : moquette, li double, 1 commode, 1 bureau, 1 télé + 1 salle de bain avec douche, wc et lavabo. 1 fenetre dans la chambre + 1 fenetre dans la salle de bain. la femme de ménage passait tous les jours pour nous changer les serviettes, mettre du savon, faire le lit, entretien de la salle de bain. Personnel très agréable. Proche toutes commodité : marchant de fruit et légumes, hot dog, supermarché, starbuck coffee et station de métro. Par contre si vous souhaitez éviter de payer le métro (comme nous), les principaux sites touristiques (wall street, la statue de la liberté ...) sont assez éloigné et il faut marcher entre 5 et 10 km. (seul inconvénient selon moi). Au niveau du bruit : on entend les aeration, l'école d'a coté lorsque les enfants sont en récréation, et la pluie ainsi que le métro et la circulation, c'est du simple vitrage et l'hotel est à New York, donc c'est normal, on s'y fait et c'est pas très génant. Au niveau du prix, ce serait cher payé pour la France, mais pour New york c'est convenable.

2nd time have stayed here and will be back again next year. the location is perfect, right next to central park, and walking distance to bway, time sq and lots of places to visit. and handy for subway to bottom end of NY. the staff are friendly and helpful, and the access to the pool, gym etc is a def bonus. room is basic but as all you will do is sleep there its all you need.

I basically needed a bed for the night, and this was reasonable value. Good location, friendly staff, comfortable and reasonably quiet room. As typical for a hostel it was a shared shower room and toilet block. In essence, it was a bed for the night. I'm going to tick the "No, I would not recommend" box because it's not a hotel, although I would stay there again if, as before, I just needed somewhere to sleep.

First time staying in a hostel and id stay in one again. Perfect location. Room and bathrooms were clean. Rooms had tv, desk, shelves, towels, soaps, ac and beds. My room card stopped working after a few days and they switched it out immediately. No complaints

Les sanitaires communs sont vraiment peu recommandables, les chambres ne possedent même pas un lavabo ... or pour les sportifs, de nombreuses salles sont à votre disposition ( basket , muscu, danse, fitness, piscine ...etc)

The hotel is a bargain, being exactly what it is -- a European-style, simple but adequate hotel across the street from Lincoln Center. If you are interested in attending opera, ballet or symphony, there is no better bargain in the city. Three bus lines and the subway are also across the street and make it central to other places you may want to visit. I have recommended it to friends being careful to note what 'European-style' means.
