Hotel 17

Good location, clean shared bathroom & room, friendly staff. Sure to book this hotel again if I am going back in NYC!!!

The best thing about this hotel is the excellent location in a nice neighborhood of historic rowhouses. It's within easy walking distance to an ecclectic variety of cafe's and good restaurants--especially Pete's Tavern and Bar Jamon. If you are taking the Bolt or MegaBus this is within walking distance or a short cab ride away. However, this is definitely not a fancy or trendy hotel--there are no high thread count sheets or modern decor. It's also an old building so the room configurations are peculiar and all different --I've stayed 3 times and never had the same looking room. There is also a dizzying array of mismatched patterned wallpaper and dark wood trim . However the rooms and shared bathrooms are clean and well maintained and the staff is competent. An excellent choice for a trip to NYC.

The room was little cramped and not as good as other hotels I have stayed in other cities but if your budget minded then sure use this hotel, if you can afford to pay a little more then by all means picks something else.

This hotel is a very good deal for small budgets. Shared bathrooms were very clean.

Hotel 17 was just right for a January night in New York with my 16 year old twin daughters. The location is convenient and safe. The biggest positive here is the staff members who were pleasant and helpful and held our baggage after our checkout. My family is accustomed to "European-style" hotels (ie: shared bathrooms) so sharing the shower/toilet was no problem. My daughters both had showers in the morning, didn't have to wait, and found the facilities clean and perfectly acceptable. Towels, shampoo, soap, and plastic cups were provided and we had a sink in the room for teeth brushing. I am a super budget traveler (youth hostels for business trips - legit!) so the price of this hotel really makes it great - I booked an adjoining single/double room arrangement for $109! The only minor negative is that the window a/c unit allowed cold air to enter my room but I could easily have asked for another blanket and the staff would have gladly provided one. I am so happy with this hotel that I am encouraging my wife to organize a "Girls' Weekend" with our daughters in NYC and would expect them to stay at Hotel 17 for all the above reasons.

The staff was great...minus the creepy and unpleasant overnight guy. The shared bathrooms were always clean. The double room that my boyfriend and I stayed in was beautiful in its details (wallpaper and wooden molding) and always the right temperature. Near the Union Square subway station for ease of travel.

Sharing bathroom was somewhat unique experience in New York. I guess it was OK. However, the hotel had some disturbing odor and it was somewhat uncomfortable. However, the location of the hotel was pretty good and its relative price was good.

This hotel meets my expectations for NYC; it was a cheap room and this reflected in the size and bedding. The bathrooms are all shared on each floor; the room is tiny. However, it is in NYC; I can't complain with the price given the outstanding location on the lower east side. Staff was friendly and courteous. I recommend for a low cost trip if you don't plan to spend much time in your room (and why would you if you are going to NYC? We only used the room to nap and sleep; the rest of our time was on-foot in the city).

Close to East Village, where you find many bars and night clubs. And easy access to metro station, from which you can arrive in JFK airport in 90 minutes. Small room and small bed, but I don't find sharing bathroom a big problem.

Our hotel stay was great. Good value. Clean. Quaint. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.
