Hotel 17

I am a student on a tight budget who wanted to explore NYC for the weekend with my friends and this hotel perfectly fit my needs. It was clean and simple, the staff was friendly, the clientele was young. It is kind of like a really clean and surprisingly spacious hostel. For $160.00 a night, Me and my two friends rented a 3 person room and we were all pleased with the stay. I would recommend this location to any and all of my friends.

clean, nice room, though small. helpful front desk clerk. two public bathrooms for each section, no need to wait. a sink in room to wash face, but no coffee machine. close to Bus 103 stop, 3 blocks to the subway. sorts of restaurants nearby.

Great experience, staff was great. I was a bit confused at no room service after the first day, but got towels and glasses from the staff. Much history and deep woods of the hotel interior made it feel special. For the price, being in midtown, it couldn't get much better. Plenty of places to eat, reasonably priced and only three blocks from the subway. If you arrive early, you can store your bags and start exploring. I would stay and plan to return to this hotel again.

I will book here again. Very basic but we spent little time in hotel.

séjour avril 2012 ; hotel près d'Union Square et du métro. Quartier super calme ce qui est génial en plein NY. L'emplacement est vraiment idéal car vous êtes au centre de Manhattan. Ma chambre au RDC donnant sur la cour était spacieuse et très propre. le matelas excellent. Les salles de douche très propres et accessibles sans pbm. Le personnel ne parle pas français mais professionnel. Je recommande!

I am accustomed to staying in Youth Hostels (even when on professional travel), youth hotels, airbnb houses and the like. I figure I am traveling to see the city, not to hang out in a hotel room. At hotel 17, the room I shared with my wife was adequate in size, had air conditioning, a good television, a sink for washing and brushing, a comfortable bed and all the extra room we need. The bathroom is shared and down the hall. The man checking in as we were leaving obviously didn't do the necessary research to learn that is the idiosyncrasy about Hotel 17. It's not a big deal. We only had to wait a few minutes once for the bathroom which is kept meticulously clean, by the way. If you can't handle the idea of sharing a bathroom, don't come here. If you want a perfectly adequate, clean, quiet, and comfortable hotel in an awesome part of NYC (Union Square, Highline Walkway, etc...), you will like Hotel 17. Small rooms but you should be in NYC to see the city, not hang out in a hotel room, imho.

Didn't realize toilet and shower was across the hall and shared. But for the money, it was a great value, and a good location if you need to be near Beth Israel Hospital.

This small charming hotel is in a great area. It's between a five to twenty minute walk to so many places like Union Square, The Empire State Building, and tons restaurants in the area. The hotel itself is basically what you pay for. It's cheap but has everything you need and has an old world feel. The old elevator can get pretty busy but it's definitely worth the wait to check it out at least once.

This place is located on a one way street, which really limits the traffic noise if your room's at the front. We wanted to change rooms half way through our stay and the staff were very accommodating. Our second room even had a view of the Empire State building! We were 2 females in NY for the first time and the area always felt safe. There are some excellent places to eat less than 2 mins walk away and we would definitely recommend the Gramercy Cafe on corner of 3rd St & E 17th St for breakfast - at the end of the street from Hotel 17! A great wee salad bar on the next block of E 17th too. James was particularly helpful and the other staff were good too - I liked the fact that they were not over-attentive but accommodating and polite. We have already recommended it and would stay there again ourselves.
