Downtown, Medical Center

We booked this hotel since it was the preferred lodging for a nearby wedding. In that respect, it was very convenient. That said, the neighborhood is not great. The hotel is located close to what is considered the "waterfront" in Albany, but take my word for it, this neighborhood is not an area in which you would like to take a casual stroll...and the waterfront is not worth the walk. The waterfront is fairly barren, as is the neighborhood. The hotel is next to a bus station and a number of industrial buildings. After attempting a walk, we quickly retreated to our car and tried driving around the area. Unfortunately, we learned that this part of Albany is fairly economically depressed. Try as we might, the best that we could find was a section perhaps a half a mile away with a number of bars (and perhaps restaurants) spread over a two block stretch. We were sure that we were missing some area in which we could walk, take in the sites, and perhaps window shop...but both our experience and speaking with locals quickly dispelled this notion. It appears that many have abandoned the city for the suburbs...and there does not appear to be much left in the city for the average tourist. The good news is that the staff was super friendly and very helpful...and the rooms were clean. The views on the other hand...well, let's just say that if you get the view of the parking lot, you are lucky. Our view was of a highway and train tracks...and yes, the train comes by fairly often. In our travels we came across another HI Express further to the west that appeared to be in a safer, more suburban neighborhood. Again, it's not a walkable neighborhood, but I am getting the feeling that not many go to Albany to take in the sites. Sad. NY needs to invest more in their capital region.

They may have raised the rates because there was an event at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center at the time, but the hotel was a bit expensive. However, it had a shuttle that brought guests wherever they needed to go and provided breakfast in the morning. Great location and the shuttle definitely made it worth the stay because taxis are very expensive.

very convenient location. The shuttle service isexcellent. Also very close to the city centre and restaurants. Very quiet surroundings and I felt safe . Attended ceremony at the Empire State Plaza which was close by. Also close to highway.

The family took a week-end road trip to Albany to see the Albany Devils games Saturday night and Sunday afternoon. We got there early enough on Saturday to walk around and check out the sites. We were happy that the hotel was on the "right" side of Delaware Avenue. The room was clean, comfortable and nicely furnished - plenty of room for us 3 adults and 1 baby. The kitchen would have come in very handy if we were able to stay longer. My favorite thing - the freshly made waffles at the FREE breakfast! Delicious! The only complaint I have is that we had to check out at 11:00 - and the game didn't start until 4:00. Being a Sunday, there wasn't much to do in town. We took a ride out on the highway to a mall and spent time there and ate before the game. It would have been nice to have been able to stay in the room until 1:00.

I found the staff to be friendly and very helpful, great location very near the Capital and Empire Plaza. Ate lunch at the bar on the second floor and food was excellent. Drawback for some may be no tub. Huge walk in shower was great for me. Will definitely stay there again.

Hotel is new, comfortable- clean, somewhat sparse/spacious rooms. The staff is relatively young, polite and pleasant. Food is relatively anodyne.

I checked in about 8:30 pm after leaving my daughter at the College of St Rose. Fortunately, earlier that day, I had driven by the Hotel and found it via the numbers in the window of the Brownstone. The address was more difficult at night to see. Also, parking was difficult to obtain at that time. However to make up for that, the staff was wonderful and made me feel right at home. The hotel is beautiful and charming. My room was very comfortable and quiet.

price is quite good,location is not bad, but not convenient to find some food nearby, lights are not bright enough to read. Cannot check in untill 3p.m, wait in the lobby for a long time.

Front Desk Manager, Martin, was very accommodating and professional!
