Custom Hotel, a Joie de Vivre Boutique Hotel

I stayed at the Custom Hotel this past weekend while visiting my boyfriend in LA. He's living in a small apartment with a bunch of other guys so we treated this as a bit of a vacation for both of us. I chose the Custom Hotel because it was close to the airport and his apartment, it looked like it had a lot of character, and the Cheaptickets rate was very reasonable. When I first drove up, I was unsure of where to go; the main entrance to the hotel is in the back, and the roadway to the parking area is apparently two ways but is barely wider than a single lane. I quickly learned that parking was valet only, and was an extra daily charge on top of the hotel rate. While the valet attendants were friendly, I would have preferred having the option to self-park. I only really interacted with the staff upon checking in and out. They were courteous enough, although they didn't strike me as especially friendly, and I don't know how helpful they would have been had I required extra assistance with anything. We slept a bit late and didn't end up leaving the room until after the maid service, so I can't comment on housekeeping. The room itself was comfortable, although the layout was a bit weird. The bed faced the windows and the television was mounted on the wall to the side. Our window was directly over the pool and restaurant area, which was a bit noisy at night but nothing the A/C couldn't drown out. In general, we were out and about most of the trip, so we pretty much just wanted a quiet, comfortable place to sleep and relax in. I'd say we got that, and the fact that it was nicer than your average chain hotel was a bonus in my eyes.

This was a good hotel that served its purpose as a spot needed for a quick business trip. My comments are based on the room mostly (where I spent most of my time when I was at the hotel). Overall, it was clean an quiet but you can tell before the current ownership the place was probably a bit run down and bummy. So looking at the small things (but it isn't about the small things anyway), it was a low budget remodeling job on this old hotel to try and turn it into a trendy, contemporary hotel. Just look at the name... "Custom Hotel," the opposite of "The Standard." Good effort but needs more work. The bed was comfortable, they had cable and movies, and a decent bathroom (great shower), well stocked fridge (that's where they get cha), great A/C. On to the bad... poor painting job in the hallways and rooms, dirty windows (and there was a lot of window for my room), popcorn ceiling (terrible), unsecured wall outlet (the plate was hanging off), cheap plastic wall trim, inoperable safe. There you have it. I have stayed in worse and better places. I would stay here again.

We were on a business trip for our ministry. It's a great location, the staff was very friendly, the price was great for this location, but there was not enough space for us.

hotel isn't bad... they've just tried to make something very modern and have cut some corners. my room was fine- but you could tell the paint was chipping, the tub was old, the drapes were not very nice. the bed was comfy though. i didn't go to the pool but the workout room was fine-

The room was very clean just really small.The pool party was nice and the staff was great.I'm glad I was only there two days.I thought the walls were closing in on me!!!

Location was very convenient (within walking distance) to where my business engagments were taking place. Staff was okay, but didn't go above and beyond. I had to ask for toilet paper in my room twice and I don't feel that the rooms were very clean. No room service, although there is a restaurant next door. Hard to get in touch with restaurant over the phone to place order. Had no major problems checking in because I wasn't in a rush, but not enough staff people working front desk.

At a first glance this hotel seem's great! In fact it was in a great location about a 15 minutes drive to hollywood, sunset blvd, melrose place,etc. Great for morning run's a park is located parallel to the hotel. It is very eco-friendly but, give's you an option in whether or not you would like to go green so that's always a plus. The only negative I would say is the inconsistency with the deposit. Enough said just please be mindful of the cost up front. Overall I would recommend this hotel again to others.

We ended up having to change rooms because the door didn't lock and the telephone didn't work, then the second room we were put in had a broken light fixture that dangled from the wall and the television would lose sound every so often. You would have to turn the tv off and turn it back on again for the sound to work. The vending machines only have Mardi Grad type masks and party favors in them - no food or drinks. The front desk personnel told us to go to the grocery store next door if we wanted a drink. The night I checked in I asked the girl at the front desk to have someone fix the broken light in the second room we had to move to the next day, and 2 days later I had to go back and ask her again, and she told me that I told her I didn't want anyone to fix it that day, when I specifically asked for someone to come the next day when she tried to send them up to my room at 11pm to fix it. On the website it says there is street parking available, but when you get there they tell you it's valet only and it's $22 a night. When I talked to the valet guy he said you can park on the street, they just can't guarantee the safety of your vehicle. The pool is very small. The hotel isn't kept up well. There are a lot of things that are falling apart and need maintenence. The best part about this hotel is the comfortable bed, good water pressure in the shower, and the air conditioning worked great. The pictures definitely were better than the actual hotel.

I was on a 3 day vacation package to Disney & Universal studios. Its quite far from both the locations.Actually I booked for LA quanta inn & Suites but the orbitz people messed up my reservation and I ended up in Custom hotel. Its quite and good. Stingy in changing towels. Ok for the prices. Its next to Ralphs store I could pick up some soda & fruits till night 2.00 am. The Other plus point for the location is its short drive far to Beach(Palya del Rey).

Good for an overnight stay at LAX - not an extended period of time.
