Bar Berlise is a popular venue for both residents and students in the lively area of Jesmond. The recently refurbished bar features the Happy Hour Machine and two state-of-the-art large plasma screens showing football & rugby games. It is also an ideal place for customers to relax and enjoy a snack from the imaginative menu.
Restaurant Facilities
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at the hotel restaurant. It is open to the public and it offers A la Carte or Table d' Hote menus supported by a large selection of wines, beers and spirits Monday to Thursday from 6 to 9.30pm. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday the restaurant is closed so only meals are available from the bar from 12 noon until 8pm.

Nice reception area shame about the rest

I stayed in the Cairn hotel for my daughter's Graduation as she had a house near by. The reception area looked respectable but once through the door leading to the room the standard dropped dramatically. The shabby carpeted stairs led up to a shabby room with broken furniture and no hot water on the second morning. The dining room was barely better with an interminable wait for a pot of tea/milk/clean cups etc. 'staffed' by bored waitresses who appeared little interested in the concept of service. I'm glad I will not have to visit again.

this area of Newcastle is handy

this area of Newcastle is handy for the university,but is also used for stag week-ends.fortunately the Cairn does not have a bar and the adjacent bars/hotels close at eleven and it then goes quiet

single room was tatty decor was old and needed redone, the plumbing noisy, the carpets filthy, only 4 channels on the tv. took 10 mins for the shower to get warm, nice people though.

Although the hotel is old the

Although the hotel is old the room was reasonably decorated and clean. The bed was comfortable and TV kettle etc all worked, there was plenty of tea, biscuits and coffee. The hotel is on the famous 'Stag & hen run' but I wasn't disturbed by any noise (shame, better luck next time). I would recommend for a budget leisure or business stay in the Toon.
