spent 5 days at GMDP, and from start to finish it was just lovely. the location couldn't be better. trip was a last minute mom & daughter(19yrs old) get away. had a mountain view room. i would suggest getting a balcony room if possible but honestly, this room was fine. the hotel, top to bottom, clean as a whistle. despite what other reviewers may say, this is truly a 5 star european beach hotel. when i read some bad reviews i couldn't help but think that those people do not travel europe that often. yes, the beds are different, the service both in and out of the hotel is a bit slower but it's europe people, embrace the difference! the staff was fabulous, bent over backwards to please. yes, you have to pay for a sunbed&umbrella on the beach. it's a small enough fee to be comfortable with and really so what? you're on vacation! poolside seats are free. pool area is lovely but i ran for the beach. alberto couldn't bring our drinks and fresh towels fast enough-he was actually running to keep everyone happy! the hotel and grounds are beautiful. it's all about the little finishing touches and they're at the Gran melia. as you stroll down the long promenade and see other hotels, you will be extremely happy that you're staying at the Gran melia. don't hesitate, just book it and have a great time. although the hotel is kid friendly, you don't see too many. (thankfully?) one last thing, granted it's small, but ladies, if you need hair conditioner, bring it! it's the only toiletry not provided. took a side trip to tangier, a long day but a lot of fun!

Short walk from hotel
be sure to have the fresh grilled fish at any one of the restaurants directly on the beach, and the paella's are fabulous! also keep in mind that the beach is sandy but getting into the water is very rocky. bring water shoes or at least flip flops to get over the rocks. Bring a blow up raft or buy one when you get there. fun!

Short walk from hotel
Many restaurants as you enter Marbella from the Promenade/Boardwalk along the Mediterranean. Food was very good.
