Bagues Hotel Barcelona

Great location with easy access for walking to landmarks, great shopping and resturants, metro, or buses. Hotel staff was very accomidating and friendly. Room and bathroom were well appointed with a comfortable feeling. Room was facing Las Ramblas, and was pleasantly surprised how well the room was soundproofed. We could also open the door to the balcony to experience the city sounds - best of everything. Lovely additional touches from robes and slippers to nightly turn-down service. As mentioned by another reviewer - the one thing that is hard to see in pictures is that the bathroom door is completly see through. Put a towel over the door to provide some privacy if needed.. Hotel provides 1 hour a day of free wifi. They provided a LAN cable for all day internet access at no charge. Also provided complimentary wine and drink at the bar for special occasion. Would stay there again.

The hotel and staff were absolutely lovely. The room was very nice, location was perfect and the staff was exactly what you'd expect from a 5 star hotel. Despite being on Las Ramblas, the room was extremely quiet. I knocked the hotel from a 5 star to a 4 star because the door to the bathroom is clear glass. I don't see how this is a good idea - from the door you could see the toilet and from the rest of the room you can see the shower (which also has a clear glass door). We rectified the situation by hanging a blanket over the door, but I don't feel I should need to do this at a 5 star hotel.

what an amazing hotel! good location, right on la ramblas, so very easy to find and travel to and from all the main sights. the hotel is spectacular. very much a 5 star experience. staff are brilliant. impeccable service. the rooms are large and very nicely decorated. on arrival, i was greeted with a large bowl of the most delicious cherries and a bottle of fresh still water to relax with on the lounge with. turn-down service each night where the proceeding day's weather forecast is provided and a treat offered on each pillow. i wasn't aware it was a member of the derby hotel chain, but now i'll be looking to stay in derby hotels in other cities. a truly brilliant experience.

Opening just under a month ago and still working through some opening kinks, this Derby Chain small boutique hotel may squeak out a 5 star rating when it is completed. Maybe. As of now, their is no indication online that it was still under construction (no suites, no spa, no meeting room completed yet), which was disappointing to pre-pay with this hotel's full price and expecting more overall. Their is no sign up outside yet, (just remember 105 Ramblas), as the efficient city cab drivers had no idea it was even there yet either. Unfortunately, our afternoon naps were interrupted by light drilling and banging as they completed rooms above and next door on both days. Being pre-paid, there was 'no room for negotiation'. Only the two person elevator was working day one, but the three person elevator (strangely right next to it) was working on the second day. They are all glass, which is unique like the hotel's modern decor. That said, *The location is truly ideal on the upper Ramblas closer to the city center and not far from the open Market. *The staff was 5 Star; very friendly, helpful and eager to please with a couple of discrepancies we had, ie. unlocking the only two English speaking channels on the t.v. (BBC and MSNBC-EU), lending an outlet converter and internet cable because the WiFi is only free for ONE HOUR per day then you have to pay a separate company by credit card (which I find ridiculous). Also, an iPod docking station is setup into the nice 42" flat screen t.v. already too. The doorman, front desk, bell help and waiter staff were perfect ... with only one exception about the construction while trying to nap on both days. *The breakfast included in the price was a small elite and tasty buffet, and you could order eggs, bacon and sausage as well. *We enjoyed the decor as you are greeted with modern European setting and it carries directly into your (Standard) room with creative lighting, clean crisp angles and a fresh appeal. We were directly on the Ramblas and the noise was dampened by an electric shade you could control from the bed. The bath featured a unique sink, wonderful massage shower and bidet. The beds were small (a European thing) stuck together but separately linened. **I would not recommend this hotel until the off season construction is completed. Then too, I'd recommend it only to couples without much luggage and definitely no small children. I never got to even see the suites, so it will be a gamble if I stay there this Spring. Looking forward to other reviews of this hotel's progress and completion.
