Playa Azul Golf Inclusive

This was our 2nd trip to Cozumel (last trip 5 yrs ago), and this time my husband and I brought my parents. We stayed at Playa Azul again as we knew that it would be perfect. Playa Azul is a small resort with fantastic ocean view rooms at incredibly reasonable rates. I don't think they have a room without an ocean view. The hotel has an older portion and a newer side; we've stayed in both and they are impeccably clean and comfortable.Each morning we enjoyed the free buffet breakfast and the consistently excellent service from the wonderful staff (my coffee cup was never empty!). The days we spent on the beach on the oh so comfortable and plentiful beach chairs. We lunched at the beach bar where the ceviche is outstanding and chatted in Spanish with our always attentive bartenders, [...] (who by the way, have been employees for 15+ years). The sunsets were breathtaking and many nights we drove into San Miguel where we discovered many wonderful restaurants (Kinta and La Veranda were perfect evenings out); however, dinner at Playa Azul is a particularly decadent event. Each night we kept the balcony doors open to hear the crashing waves as we slept to prepare ourselves for another incredible day on the beach. Me encanta Playa Azul.

Overall very good. The golf was excellent. The weather was cool so swimming options were limited because the pool is not heated. No hot tub either which would have been nice to jump into after snorkeling. Friendly service. Great attentivenes to keeping the hotel and our room clean.

Hotel is too expensive for what it offers, but balances out with the golf. We choose this hotel for that reason and if not, we may have choose another hotel. My husband played everyday and got our moneys worth but there is not much for kids to do and the beach was very rocky. And whether is was from the hurricane or not, some of the beach area was dirty and I got a nail through my shoe and into my foot. The staff was okay with only a few that really stood out. Beer was overpriced so we ended up at the store to get drinks, sodas etc. Once they close the restaurant and bar, there is no other way to get beverages including sodas.

Really enjoyed our stay at Playa Azul. This is not a full-service type of hotel, but the service is top-notch nonetheless. In other words, don't expect a bellman to greet you at your car and load up your bags for you. Short of that, you'll have everything else you need for service. Front desk folks were always friendly and extremely helpful in arranging dinner reservations, car rental arrangements, golf tee times, and in answering general questions. I was amazed when I went down to the front desk to check in (we arrived late after the desk had closed) and mentioned that our toilet was clogged. Upon returning to my room, the maintenance man was already leaving the room with plunger in hand! WOW! Other requests were similarly handled in rapid fashion. Breakfasts (included in the rate) were great, especially with the view of the beach and ocean. Again, service was great. We didn't use the restaurant, but did use beach service, which was amazingly attentive. The food was also great from the beach service. Try the mixed ceviche! Waiter rushed us over a replacement soda when we accidentally spilled one of ours. Our room was of good size. Rose petals on the bed upon arrival. It was quite clean, although there was a little mildew in the shower door tracks. Not bad, though, and understandable in the humid climate. Fresh large bottle of water every day. TV was small, but who goes on vacation to watch TV? Our room had a great view of the pool, beach, ocean and the mainland. It was fun watching the cruise ships arrive in the morning and leave after sunset. The golf course was great. Green fees are included in the rate, but there is a cart rental fee (mandatory). Still, it was reasonable for a course of its caliber. The course was well maintained, challenging (for me, at least) and featured a tremendous amount of wildlife. We saw hundreds of iguanas, several crocodiles, tortoise, snakes, and other creatures that we don't see every other day. My daughter and I played while my wife and other daughter (who don't play golf) went along for the ride every day and enjoyed looking at the wildlife. The course's 19th hole had pretty good food also and a friendly staff. Don't expect a wild time at this hotel. We arrived late (shortly after 11:00 pm) and thought that we were the only hotel guest. People go to bed early or go to town at night. There are no organized activities at this hotel as in some resorts. Make your own activities. The front desk closes from 11pm to 7am, though there is 24 hour security, which we found to be helpful. A small, friendly, hotel that will appeal to couples, golfers, and families that don't need to be entertained 24-7.

We have stayed here quite a few times. The location and staff bring us back. The hotel has been extensively remodeled since the hurricane. The restaurant is wonderful...the beach excellent, and there's great snorkeling a few strokes away.

Third time to stay. Excellent staff. Superb location right on the water. Very quiet. Perfect for couples wanting to enjoy the beautiful water.

It's easy to be overwhelmed by all of the reviews here (I know I was!) The key is to know what elements you are looking for. Playa Azul is the perfect hotel if you want a quiet, peaceful, relaxing vacation. It's on the north side of the island, away from the noise and crowds, but there are always taxis available (about $7 US to get downtown). It's a small hotel (less than 50 rooms) and the service is attentive. While almost all other places I researched charge an extra $100+ for an ocean view, ALL of the rooms at Playa Azul have a wonderful view of the ocean (we fell asleep every night with sounds of the waves). TIP: request a room on the 4th (top) floor - higher ceilings and better views. Also, if you get rooms 400 - 404 you'll have a great view of the sunset! The resturant had a good selection, was reasonably priced and the food was very good (I read lots of bad reviews of the food at the bigger AI resorts). It's very clean and well-maintained. We did some great snorkling from the beach and to the south. Other than some resorts on the far south of the island I think Playa Azul has one of the best true beaches. Just don't go expecting sandy, Florida-type beaches. The island is coral - the beaches are rocky. That's what makes the diving and snorkeling so good. Our only complaint would be the bathrooms could use some updating. Also, no mini fridge in room - that would have been nice.

Everything was perfect. Great quite location perfect for couples that are seeking a quite and peaceful vacation. The beach is quite picturesque.

This was my second trip to this hotel, and it lived up to my expectations. The hotel was in a lovely location and the staff is super friendly. The beach in front of the hotel is nice with lounge chairs and palapas. We snorkeled of the beach and saw tons of fish, a turtle, a few sand sharks, and lots of other sea creatures in the water in front of the hotel. The free breakfast buffet is the perfect way to start the day and the food is delicious. The hotel gave us a minifridge for the room and a pitcher of water in addition to the one bottle of water each day. The hot water in the shower came and went. The elevator was down and the hike up and down from the 4th floor was a good workout. The staff are very friendly, smile and say hi anytime you see them, and do everything possible to make your trip great. The beach club next door is connected to the hotel and you can get a great lunch there and bill it to your room.

The people we so incredibly friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy taking care of us. My father (retired and disabled) had a health issue flare up while we were there and the front desk called to find a clinic that was open late at night (doesn't it always have to happen at night?!) and he got us a cab. When some medications were late in being deliveredy by the pharmacy, he called to track them down and made sure we got it. [...], also at the front desk, always had a smile for us.The restaurant staff was so warm and friendly. [...], [...],[...], [...] and the crew took EXCELLENT care of us. We looked forward to seeing them each day. And, we were shocked at how incredibly reasonable the food was priced in the restaurant. We ate at the hotel all meals except for about 3 over 9 days! Huge menu, lots of choices. Some items were so good, we had to have them several times.Hotel was wonderfully lacking loud partier-type guests. The other guests seemed to be mellow folks like us looking for relaxation, not a loud boisterous place to wreak havoc and annoy people. We paid a bit more to stay here and I am so incredibly glad I did. I would most definitely stay here again!!Oh, my 12 year-old daughter LOVED the turtles that roam around in a nice area near the front. My father and I enjoyed helping her feed them. Snorkeling was wonderful, too!!Loved Playa Azul!! There was truly only one thing I didn't love...the beds were very hard. But, it was easy to overlook because it had so many other things to offer.
