The Andaman, a Luxury Collection Resort, Langkawi

Although I haven't done a lot of 'beach resort' vacations, the Andaman made everything convenient and was wonderful for relaxation. Don't expect a lot of attractions on the island of Langkawi; 1-2 days should cover everything there is to do, and the scuba diving was only average (at least in January). Go here to relax on a minimally crowded beautiful beach. Also the Andaman seems to have more guests than the Datai, which was mostly deserted when we went (although the staff at the Datai paid us a lot of attention as they were fully staffed when we ate dinner there... we didn't like this). Service was inconsistent - some language barriers or confusion with some staff, but excellent service from others.

I book two rooms and we checked in quite early, around noon, however, the hotel still gave us the wing which was having renovation. It seemed like the rooms were deserted for months, the rooms were old and dim, there were dust everwhere, the floor was sticky, , and not maintained. The bathroom was nothing the same as posted in its website. And, there is no saunna or steam room facility, this is quite unacceptable for a 4 or 5 stars luxury hotel. The hotel location is really inconvenient if you want to do some island tours or having outside meals. A rental car is a must.

The beach is one of the best imaginable- soft sand, shallow shelf and many waves. My six year old loved it. Fabulous views of nearby islands and the rainforests. Food: strangely complicated eating arrangements- restaurant open only for buffet breakfast and dinner. Poolside dining other times. Food took a long time to come. Many menus - poolside, the larder , the bar, the healthy option, the kids menu. So, if they gave you a different menu (by the pool) it didn't include some of the items which were available! Should consolidate into one larger menu. Food not value for money by a far shot. Gym- not working. Exercise equipment on two different floors as gym being renovated. Keys- worked erratically. (magnetic) All in all, a lovely location. Not bad hotel. Food very poor for value. we will probably go back as my kids loved it. we had a lovely holiday. With some improvement, it could be a fabulous holiday destination

Excellent hotel in secluded location but close enough to the rest of Langkawi activities. Staff are freindly and attentive. Quality relaxation
