I'd recommend this place
10 minute walk to the vatican--About 15 minute walk to St Angelo's Castle--Great small restaurants all around the hotel area---room very clean---beds firm and comfortable---staff very helpful---hard wood floors in room made cleanliness easy. I wouldn't recommend if you are travelling with children cause there's no pool and the televison is in Italian. Breakfast was included and we took some of the sandwiches and used them for lunch. Overall great experience. I'd go back there again. It's not in the city center but walking distance or cheap train ride or bus ride away from all major attractions.

Sightseeing tips:
Not Applicable
Never book tours online before you get there!! It's much cheaper to go to the attraction and look for a tour person. THEY WILL FIND YOU!! TRUST ME!! And they are official professional tours filled with information. Trust me--you will save 75 to 100 bucks!

We had one day in Rome and wanted to explore the Vatican Museums. The Franklin was a perfect location--within walking distance to Vatican City. The staff were extremely helpful giving us directions, restaurant recommendations, and setting up transportation to the airport.

Restaurant just outside Vatican Walls--L'Insalata Ricca: Good food and service at reasonable price.

Disco Ball in Bathroom.
The world would be a better place if all bathrooms had a disco ball in them. The low cost of a room is what drew us in. The room, hosts, and location will bring us back. The musically themed hotel is fantastic. Location is 8 minute walk from Vatican City and subways (Metro). Nowhere in Rome was more than 35 minutes away. The hotel is off major streets, so very quiet. Rooms were simply great - from the bathroom (did I mention the disco ball?), bed, and entertainment system (not just a TV). The hosts knew Rome and how to get to the places we wanted. They were always available. The cleaning staff was fantastic, and cleaned our room even when we slept in until noon. Follow McDonald's signs to get to the correct street is my only advice.

Short walk from hotel
The Metro is 5 blocks away and is fast. The bus is 1 block away, slower, and goes more places. I perfer the Metro. Get the Roma Pass from Metros (3 days buses and subway. and 2 free admisssions to sites).
