Donatello Hotel Rome

Had an enjoyable stay. Room was clean and comfy with good airconditioning. Easy access to highway...used a GPS. Safe parking in a garage. Close walking to main train station (15-25 minutes depending on your pace) Same for hop on hop off busses.

Easy to locate off the highway. The receptionist could have been a little more welcoming and people friendly. We thought it may change as we were trying very hard to be very kind...it didn't. :-( A/C worked great. Room was very clean. Close to a bus/train stop, however the stop was quite busy so we opted to walk to the nearest hop on hop off stop which was about 15 minutes.

Nondescript hotel, 20 to 25 minute walk from train station. We stayed there because it was cheapest hotel in walking distance from train station. Desk guy was fine, not friendly, but not rude. Sheets and towels were clean, but I am not certain about the bedspread.

this is a rather pretty and very clean hotel, which is impossible to find, and much too far from tourist attractions. Although it advertises itself as being right by the Termini train station, it took us at least 30 minutes to walk there, suitcases in tow, under a beating sun, and through a really scary neighborhood, with noone, including the Polizia and the Carabinieri able to figure out where the street was! This is not a 4-star hotel by any definition!

We enjoyed the hotel a lot. The room was small by USA standards but pretty average for European hotels. We were surprised to find two single beds but they were comfortable and clean. The hotel staff was very courteous and helpful. Three of the men were way above average but the oldest fellow was pretty hard to deal with. The "breakfast" was really just coffee, tea, and croissants but they were excellent and we enjoyed the European touch. We would have liked some fruit and cheese or cereal. The subway entrance was about 15 minutes away and the neighborhood was dark and covered with graffiti but we never felt threatened while walking. Overall, it was a nice place to stay.

I chose hotel because of relative proximity to train station and prior reviews. (I was returning to Rome from Florence, and planned to catch the train to airport early next morning.) Hotel is located south of train station, and I discovered that after dark this area is a bit run down. As a single female walking purposefully with my baggage and with my map, I was not singled out or accosted. I did not have trouble finding the hotel. Check in was easy; I would call it a no frills place (generic) but it was clean. I received my wake up call right on time. Breakfast was included, but I missed it because I was catching an early train (the reason I chose this hotel to start with). Train is about 10 minute walk from hotel. When I asked for a place for a quick dinner, I was directed at a small trattoria around the corner, and when I looked up from my outdoor table, discovered that I was looking at the old city wall; an amazing dinner view for my last night in Rome. The hotel is not adjacent to any "sights", although one could manage sightseeing from this hotel as a base. The hotel served the purpose for which I booked it; a one night stay close to the railroad in a safe clean location where staff would be able to communicate in English, relatively inexpensive.

staff at reception were really helpfull, providing info about the city and how to see its attractions.
