- How to reach the hotel: if you are driving from Rome or Naples, follow directions for motorway A3 in direction of Salerno. On A3 take exit Vietri sul Mare, following signs for Amalfi and you will be find the hotel in the main square of the town. Approximate journey time 1 ½ hours. By plane: Naples is the nearest airport well connected with Rome, Milan, Venice, London, Paris and Frankfut. By train: Salerno is the nearest railway station (25 km, approximately 55 minutes drive) Naples is the second nearest (70 km, approximately 75 minutes drive) By car: On motorway A3 take junction for Salerno centro. Turn left following signs for Vietri sul Mare and Amalfi, after driving for about 3 km you will be on the famous Amalfi Coast. Once you are in Amalfi you fin the hotel in the main square of the town. Approximate journey time from Rome 3 ½ h, Naples 1 ½ h.

Location is everything!
I wanted to explore the Amalfi coast on a budget. The Fontana gave me the perfect homebase to that. Really, everything you need is right there. The room was everything I required plus a view of both sea and the square. Breakfast was provided and the SITA bus stop was literally steps from the building. GO! Don't question it. Life IS too short.

Short walk from hotel
In the smaller square off to the left there is a snack bar turned restaurant called L'Abside. Go! The mother/daughter team that do the cooking make everything fresh to order and their prices are very reasonable. On the plus side they also speak very good English. Splurge at least once on dessert...its heavenly. Otherwise just learn the phrase "vino rosso dell casa" and try the local favorites.

certainly not a three star
Stayed for 6 nights (October 2010) at the Fontana. Certainly not a three star hotel, even the local Amalfi Tourist Authority gives it a two star. The hotel staff was horrible and could care less if you had a nice stay or not. The bed squeaked, only warm water in the bathroom, the TV had no English speaking channels (no CNN or BBC). The breakfast was all sweet pies or pastry, which might be good for a couple of days but not certainly 6 days. No coffee or tea service in the room. NO INTERNET (for guest use) in the room or hotel. There was an Internet cafe in town but it is quite expensive. The hotel has a good location, but so don't many other hotels in Amalfi. With the hotel loction being on the main square you will be awaken at 0600 by truck and car noise.

Hotel Fontana
I loved staying at Hotel Fontana! Perfect location for exploring the town. Right on the main square. Beautiful view! Large rooms with tall windows. Staff were very professional and helpful. Hiked up to Ravello. Was a very challenging hike, but fun! Great adventure! Ravello is beautiful too!

I was in Amalfi for 2 days at
I was in Amalfi for 2 days at the hotel. It was very nice trip. the hotel is very clean and near by the coast. And managers in the hotel are very kind and they served kindly. but there are some problem which likes noise. I couldn't feel 'very' noisy. But some of people who stayed at rooms which are toward to street (centro) were very noisy because of many tourists in restaurants or bar. and also my room was noisy because of car noise.

we stayed for four nights at
we stayed for four nights at The Fontana Hotel and found the staff exceptionally helpful, to all our needs and suppliying information for us. It was very clean and the position of the hotel looking over both sea and the square was a top place to be .

Fantastic location. yes the bells
Fantastic location. yes the bells do ring but they stop at 930pm and the double glazing is great. the reception lady was fantastic very helpful breakfast just what you need best coffee we had had for weeks. The breakfast ladies althought spoke little english, always knew who we were would recommend this hotel for those staying 3-4 nights in amalfi....buses and ferries so close..loved the area. Great find.....

la posizione è eccezionale! molto
la posizione è eccezionale! molto caro il parcheggio: 16 euro. Camere un pò spartane, ma alcune con notevole panorama.
