Novotel Athenes

Great hotel, although it is very hard to find by car and by footh. Very positive about the facilities, especially the free private-garage. Great modern building. The area where the hotel is located can be defined as unpleasant. In this part of Athens you find a lot of non-greek inhabitants (Afghanistan, Pakistan, Irak). Very poor people in bad surroundings. Of course this is a main problem of the city of Athens. As for the hotel service we advise you to change the system of closing the room-admittance after 11.00u a.m. on the day of depart. Last check out time is 12.00u so keep the admittance also until 12.00u.

Typical Novotel - room is very businessman like - I would have appreciated some drawers for clothes! Also although the hotel is good the location is bad, a very run down area, fortunately I was with my husband - I would have been concerned walking back to the hotel after dark on my own.

Very good service - we used the luggage room to store our bags prior to check in. The room was lovely. However, the building is in a dreadful neighborhood, where you think twice about walking - especially at night - but there is little choice short of taking a very expensive taxi ride. So we walked to the metro station to proceed to the airport at 10 PM rather than check out at 4 AM and pay about 75 Euro for a cab to the airport.

Really well designed hotel! Lovely bathroom with some nice touches, easy to use shower, elegant frosted glass doors. Like many European hotels, all the electrics in the room are turned on or off by placing your key (or removing it) in a slot by the door when you enter or leave. This keeps people from leaving the room with the lights on. Unfortunately, they had a spare key in the slot, negating its energy-saving effects. We picked this hotel because we got a great deal on it from one of the internet travel sites. Slightly sketchy location, not near the major tourist sites, but very convenient to Larissa train station.

The hotel is very nice on the inside, just not in a great area. It is a 10 minute metro ride to the Acropolis and a40 min cab from the airport.

Novotel is a nice modern upscale place but it is in the heart of the foreign enclave and frankly, I would not walk around the neighborhood at night. Taxi drivers warned us about crime in the area. The rooms are standard for upscale hotels though the beds are typically hard as seems true all over Europe. It is clean but the Greek obsession with cigarettes leaves a tang of tobacco everywhere and although we had a non-smoking room, there was an ash tray. The roof top pool is great and the gourmet but pricey food service there after 8pm is fun especially because you have a great view of the Parthenon and all of Athens.
