Hotel Au Royal Cardinal

The hotel was a decent size but the sheets seemed old and worn. The furnishings were also old but added to the "cozy" feel. The room had lots of light during the day which was very nice. There were 2 terrace window/doors which open to a small terrace. One in the bed room and one in the bath. The bathroom was also aging: florescent lamp at the sink, shower with no curtains, only provided 2 towels (no hand towels or foot towels).

There was no one receptionist when I arrived in the afternoon and was 'checked in' by the cleaning staff. The sheets had tears and the towels had stains on them and smelled like vinegar. The rooms & hotel looked nothing like they did in the website. I've been to Paris many times and have stayed at different hotels each time. This is by far the worst i've been.

Price and location are what are most appealing about this hotel. Notre Dame and the Seine are a short 10 minute walk and the metro is only a block away. Also, the staff was friendly and helpful. Although our room for 7 days and nights was basically clean and comfortable, the accommodations are best suited for the minimalist in us. Small is an understatement - both the room itself and bathroom are cramped for space. Noise transmits easily through the walls; but, fortunately, our neighbors in the adjacent rooms were very quiet so it never became an issue. For those who can be content with modest living space and an absence of luxuries, this hotel is a notch above acceptable.
